• Work with a reputable contractor - one that treats you fairly and honestly, puts their promises in writing and backs up their work.
• Home renovation is both a financial and emotional investment.

3 Steps to Make Sure Your Renovation Goes Right

1. Get Informed
2. Home renovation and construction is a complex process
3. As a consumer you need to know where you stand and that your interests are protected
5. Items to be aware of and which should be addressed in a written contract:
6. Building codes and permits;
7. Insurance;
9. Workers compensation;
11. Warranties (Renomark Program);
13. A full description of the work to be completed;
15. A schedule laying out the dates of when the project will start and be completed;
17. A clear payment schedule that lays out when and how much you will be charged.
18. Hire a Professional
19. Make sure you find a good contractor. Ask around, best recommendations come from those who are close to you and have had a positive experience.
20. You may also find professional contractor through the GVHBA website.
21. Read the Contract Carefully
22. Do not sign a contract unless you are satisfied and it includes all the necessary information and fully represents what you have agreed to!
