  • Work with a reputable contractor - one that treats you fairly and honestly, puts their promises in writing and backs up their work.
  • Home renovation is both a financial and emotional investment.

3 Steps to Make Sure Your Renovation Goes Right

  1. Get Informed
  2. Home renovation and construction is a complex process
  3. As a consumer you need to know where you stand and that your interests are protected
  4. Items to be aware of and which should be addressed in a written contract:
  5. Building codes and permits;
  6. Insurance;
  7. Workers compensation;
  8. Warranties (Renomark Program);
  9. A full description of the work to be completed;
  10. A schedule laying out the dates of when the project will start and be completed;
  11. A clear payment schedule that lays out when and how much you will be charged.
  12. Hire a Professional
  13. Make sure you find a good contractor. Ask around, best recommendations come from those who are close to you and have had a positive experience.
  14. You may also find professional contractor through the GVHBA website.
  15. Read the Contract Carefully
  16. Do not sign a contract unless you are satisfied and it includes all the necessary information and fully represents what you have agreed to!
