First Floor Renovation – ‘Come on Baby Light My Fire’
Purpose of renovation and construction challenges
Dated 70’s style home with dominant dark wood lacked light and room to entertain. The renovation included the Kitchen, Living Room, Power Room, Dinning area and Patios. The new floor was to be centred around a glass encased staircase and contemporary theme. The kitchen was made larger by removing the laundry room. We modernized the ceiling, adding charm and interest with beams. We found numerous structural challenges along the way, including a steep driveway which created challenges when bringing and removing materials.
Efficient use of space
The now larger kitchen island houses bar stool space, a wine fridge, and extra storage. The Fireplace at end of island links the dining room and the kitchen together. The living room has a new fireplace and feels far more open thanks to the glass staircase. Large windows installed capture natural light and views all around the Howe Sound.
Creativity and finishing details
A long, narrow display window in the place of the kitchen backsplash is a favourite feature of ours as it allows the natural landscape in. Entertaining has been made easy with built-in coffee machine, steam oven, kitchen pot filler and even ceiling speakers to add ambiance. Soft close, simple and contemporary caruba elm effect European cabinetry with high gloss contrasting cabinets. The marble fireplace links the kitchen with the dining room, creating a warm atmosphere for dinner parties.See More Galleries
