How to make your home easier to clean

How to make your home easier to clean - Read this home renovation insight now.

Keeping our home clean feels like a full-time job. No matter how many times we wipe down surfaces, dust and dirt somehow finds it’s way back. With this in mind, we decided to look into some short cuts. Things that could be added to our homes that make it easier to keep on top of the cleanliness.

Flooring that’s easy to keep clean

Instead of investing in carpets and large rugs, having a concrete or luxury vinyl floor will make it quicker and easy to keep the floors clean. If you have pets of a larger family, it’s even more important to have flooring that’s scratch-proof, stainproof and low maintenance.

Install a central vacuum system with sweep inlets

Consider installing a central vacuum system throughout the home, particularly in areas such as the kitchen, where food is typically prepared. It makes it much quicker to sweep away crumbs. This is also a very handy option when you have pets and therefore lots of pet hair to clean up.

Choose upholstery fabrics that are durable and easy to clean

It might feel like an obvious one, but taking into consideration the fabric when purchasing your furniture is almost as important as the look. This is even more important if you have children and or pets. Ensuring you Scotchgard all your fabrics is also a great way to ensure you have peace of mind.

Make your laundry room work for you

Ensuring you have the space to sort through your laundry and somewhere convenient to hang clothes to dry is paramount when it comes to laundry days. If possible, it’s also very handy to have a laundry chute. It means dirty laundry doesn’t have to be lugged around the house. It might even convince certain family members to pick up their dirty clothes from the floor (we can't promise anything).

Avoid grout if possible

We all know grout is the most annoying part of the cleaning routine. Mold and residue build-up can be limited if you choose larger tiles that require less grout. By limiting the grout in the bathrooms and kitchens it’s going to cut down your cleaning time significantly.

Easy to wipe down surfaces

Choosing surfaces that require less maintenance or specific cleaning products will speed up the cleaning time. For example, quartz worktops are very durable and require limited upkeep vs a specific wood worktop which may require re-sealing throughout the year.
