One of few original homes on the street, it was important to the clients to be sensitive to its 1912 heritage. Original flooring was saved, refinished and reused wherever possible throughout the renovation. Additional reclaimed hardwood was installed in the kitchen and custom staircase. The original iron chandeliers were rewired to meet current electrical code and re-installed. The introduction of skylights and floor-to-ceiling windows provide additional light for the living areas, along with views of the mature trees outside.Numerous energy efficient considerations were put into place including insulation, windows, and Energy Star appliances. The attic was transformed from a dark storage space into bright, 800 sq. ft. private master suite accessed by a unique and elegant new staircase.Extensive leveling work of the old floors was completed while a new 34' beam was carefully craned through a 2'x 2' window in the attic and installed without removing the roof. Clients wanted to retain the lathe and plaster making upgrading of electrical challenging.
Thanks for the follow up. Happy to report that all is well and our family is enjoying our home very much. There is always lots of compliments whenever we have guests over.
