3 Tips to Designing Your Outdoor Space

1. Plan the entire outdoor entertaining space as part of a single functional plan. - Dining, lounging, cooking and pool areas often coexist. Think of these as outdoor rooms and consider the flow of traffic between them as part of the design. Try not to isolate the outdoor chef from the rest of the party. Create opportunities for interaction within the floor plan.
2. To cover or not to cover. - When creating an outdoor kitchen, one of the first things to consider is whether or not to have the space covered. Unless covered, you should expect to experience significantly more wear and tear on your surfaces and appliances than if under some form of protection.
3. Create a comfortable entertaining space in your backyard oasis. - Help to extend the seasonal life of your outdoor kitchen by placing natural gas or propane patio heaters in the area for chilly summer evenings and as the weather begins to cool. Remember to include adequate lighting for after-dark cooking and entertaining.

Tips to Secure Your Home During the Holidays and Vacations

Put your mind at ease while on vacation with these 6 simple tips:

• Security system - Install a monitored security system.
• Doors and Windows - Lock and bolt all doors and windows while you are away.
• Avoid being a victim - Leave something in plain view outside to give the appearance of family activity -- gardening tools, toys, or water hose can all send a message someone is home.
• Set timers - Put devices such as a radio, interior and exterior lights on timers set to your normal schedule so intruders think someone is home.
• Mail - Stop your mail and newspaper deliveries. Ask a neighbor to remove the free regional newspapers and flyers from the front of your house. They don't take long to accumulate
• Ask a neighbor... - Get a family member or trusted neighbor to mow your lawn, move your vehicle occasionally and place a bag of their household trash in front of your home on collection day.
